A man who is accused of leading authorities on a high-speed chase starting at the Johnson City Walmart at 3:14 a.m. May 25 and ending with a standoff at a Cortland hotel the next morning remains hospitalized in Syracuse.

Police chased 28 year old Corey Hobart of Conklin, who was wanted on a parole violation, at speeds reaching 109 miles an hour before he was cornered in Cortland and apparently shot himself.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials initially tried to detain Hobart in Johnson City before he sped off on a pursuit that wound on a path through Johnson City, onto Vestal Road in Vestal, doubling back into Johnson City then continued on Route 17 and Interstate 81 before exiting in Cortland onto Route 11 in spite of stop sticks being deployed at several locations.

At one point, Hobart allegedly waived a gun out of the window of the car and, when holed up in the hotel with a woman who had been in the car with him, told police he had two handguns, a shotgun and drugs.

The standoff lasted almost 24 hours until police found the Conklin man unresponsive on the bathroom floor with self-inflicted wounds.

Hobart was last reported in critical condition.

Jeri Ann Healy is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Police say they found heroin in her vehicle.
