Shortly before 6:30 a.m. May 8 the school issued a notice of a power outage on the campus that would delay opening.  An hour later, another call went out announcing SUNY Broome closed for the day.

Broome County Emergency Services officials, located at the North entrance to the campus said they were unaware of any power issue and the New York State Electric and Gas website reported no power interruptions in Broome County.

Shortly after the second notification, a spokeswoman for the school told us that a transformer on campus was responsible for the closure.

The problem is confined to the campus and no traffic lights or service to homes or businesses along Upper Front Street were affected.
