Southern Tier Independence Center Seeking Support Providers to Help with Life Skills

Southern Tier Independence Center is looking for someone who has great social skills and feels fulfilled by helping others succeed. If this sounds like you, their direct support professional role in their Community Habilitation Program is the job for you. They’re looking for people to offer their clients one-on-one support.

Through the position, you’ll be able to support individuals with disabilities in their homes and in the communities where they live. At Southern Tier Independence Center, their staff believes people with disabilities have the right to: choose with whom and where they live; work in a competitive job at a fair wage; plan their own social activities; worship where they wish; vote independently in an accessible polling place; have adequate supports to live the lives they choose while being treated with dignity and respect.

Job Type(s): Full Time and Part-Time; Flexible Hours Based on Needs of the Client

Pay: Starting at $12.50/hour

Some of the skills you’ll help the individuals with include:

• Basic Hygiene Skills
• Community Integration
• Cooking/Food Shopping Skills
• Interest Exploration
• Money Management
• Public Transportation

As a direct support professional, you will: 

• Help people live more independently and happily in their homes and community by working with them to achieve their goals
• Assist people with their day-to-day needs (transportation, bathing, preparing meals, etc.)
• Go with people into the community to do activities (shopping, library, craft classes, etc.) 
• Provide encouragement and coaching to people who are working to become more independent. 
• Write documentation about the supports you provided during your shift.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver’s License
• Reliable Vehicle
