Site Cleared for New Johnson City Healthcare Clinic

An old house and a former medical complex in Johnson City have been torn down to make way for a healthcare facility planned by Binghamton University and Lourdes Hospital.

Workers from LCP Group of Vestal began demolition at the site at 27 Jennison Avenue Wednesday. The property is just north of the future home of the university's Decker School of Nursing.

The Binghamton University Foundation acquired the site for $350,000 in December 2015.

University President Harvey Stenger has said supervised nursing school students will be able to get training by assisting at the elder care clinic.

The center is to serve walk-in patients and those with appointments.

Construction of the new facility is expected to begin soon. It will be an engineered building with components designed and manufactured specifically for the clinic.

The center is expected to open in about one year.
