A section of a normally-busy town of Vestal roadway remains out of service because of a broken sewer line.

The eight-inch line on Vestal Road collapsed last week. Town employees have been working with a crew from ZMK Construction to make necessary repairs.

A supervisor at the job site said the broken line is about nine or ten feet below the road surface.

A portion of the affected sewer line is being replaced. The work is expected to take a few more days to complete.

Vestal Road is closed to traffic in both directions between Winans Avenue and the on-ramp to Route 17 West.

Town supervisor John Schaffer said blacktop is to be trucked to the site Friday to temporarily repair the road surface. He said the affected section will be milled and repaved later in the spring.
