In preparation for the upcoming Binghamton is Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma, patient Liz Devivo and Scleroderma Foundation/ Tri-State Chapter Manager of Fundraising, Kyle Mills appear on the May 20 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up.

Devivo provides details about the auto-immune disease that causes a hardening of tissue, including internal organs.  Devivo says she takes numerous medications and research funded through the annual walk has made some progress in slowing the disease but there is still no cure.

Mills says many people are not familiar with the disease and its effects on sufferers.

Binghamton's walk is taking place June 4 at Otsiningo Park in the Town of Dickinson with check-in starting at 9 a.m.

Mills says on average, 250-300 people participate but there are hopes for greater numbers this year.

People can find out more about Devivo's journey through her book.

Information on the Scleroderma Foundation can be found by calling (800) 867-0885 or online at www.SclerodermaTriState.org.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
