The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 10 p.m. February 7  for the entire region extending through the center of New York from the Canadian border, South through Pennsylvania to well below Scranton.

Forecasters say heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches are being projected, with localized amounts up to 11 inches. Ice accumulations are also expected.

Locally, the Warning includes Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Cortland, Otsego, Northern and Southern Oneida, Onondaga and Madison Counties in New York.  In Pennsylvania, the area includes Susquehanna, Bradford and Wayne Counties

Motorists are advised to plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute. There could also be significant reductions in visibility at times.

Dozens of schools in the region, government offices, operations at some businesses and non-profits are being waylaid by the weather.

The City of Binghamton wants residents to clear the streets and use off-street parking, whether in their own driveways or in public lots or lots at City parks until 6 p.m. February 8.  The Alternate Side of the Street Parking rules are to be strictly enforced.  Remember, if you do opt to park in a City Parking garage or lot, there is a fee.

Waverly is under a Snow Emergency and all vehicles must be off the street by 11 a.m. February 7.

Road crews throughout the region are geared up to deal with occasionally heavy snow from the latest system moving through the area.

February 6, Broome County officials said their crews were checking plows and salt supplies in preparation for heading out to clear over 100 roads.

Likewise, New York State Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and municipal DPW staff had been inspecting and cleaning equipment in preparation of the storm.

Officials have said it may take some time to get the roads totally cleared and residents should be patient and do their part by keeping vehicles off the roads if possible, heed winter parking rules, refrain from blowing or shoveling snow into the road, which is illegal, and shovel out fire hydrants located near their homes or businesses.
