Say Goodbye to iTunes
The rumors are apparently correct. After 18 years Apple will be doing away with iTunes. The official announcement is expected to come at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California.
Introduced in 2001, iTunes was the answer to illegal downloading from services such as Napster. It allowed customers to legally download the songs they wanted instead of purchasing entire albums. The service expanded to include movies and TV shows.
An even easier way to enjoy music and shows was streaming and over the years most consumers switched from downloading to instant access to entertainment on providers such as Spotify.
Apple is expected to replace iTunes with three separate apps for Music, TV and Podcasts available on iPhones and iPads.
