Rumble Ponies: $5 Million Stadium Upgrade
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies held a press conference today to announce that they have extended their lease of NYSEG Stadium through 2026 and that there will be 5.1 million dollars in upgrades made to NYSEG Stadium.7
In addition, New York Mets representatives were on hand to announce that they are extending their Player Development Contract with the Rumble Ponies through the 2022 season.
The 5.1 million dollar improvement plan will include; replacing the turf with new sod and a new drainage system, replacing all the seats that have been at NYSEG Stadium since the park opened, maintenance on the stadiums structural steel and concrete, a renovated home clubhouse which hasn't been updated since 1992, a new sound system, and more.
According to a press release from the Rumble Ponies, 2.5 million dollars of the project will come from State funds, the City of Binghamton will contribute 2.5 million, and team ownership will be contributing $100,000 to the project.
The Rumble Ponies say that the work should begin within a few weeks and they expect to have it all done before the first pitch on opening day this upcoming season.
I wonder how much it would cost to put a retractable dome on NYSEG Stadium? That would make those April games so much more enjoyable.
I know... that will never happen.
