Cardi B, Rita Ora, Charli XCX + Bebe Rexha Deliver on Sexy ‘Girls': Listen
Ten years after the release of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," Rita Ora has teamed up with Cardi B, Charli XCX, and Bebe Rexha for a bit of a redux.
The foursome, who first teased their collaboration "Girls" on May 4, dropped the brand new song Friday (May 11) and — in the process — delivered a new bisexual anthem of sorts. The track, an upbeat, candy-coated banger, finds the ladies each teasing their desire to lock lips with the girls of their dreams (and, in Cardi's case, a "girl from Great Britain").
"I steal your bitch, have her down with the scissor / Tonight, I don't want a dog, I want a kitten (meow) / I might French a girl from Great Britain," Cardi spits on the track, before Bebe, Rita and Charli join on the chorus to proclaim: "Sometimes, I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls / Red wine, I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls."
Ora, who constructed the new-age "Lady Marmalade" supergroup, told Metro that the 2001 track served as sure inspiration for the collaboration, and that a sexy video is forthcoming.
“For those who aren’t afraid to rule the world, this is our anthem,” she said. “A celebration of love. And of course thank you to all the fellow boss women who so kindly graced this song with me — each representing who they are and where they are from. I hope you dance your socks off with us!”
Ora also told People that she was inspired by "I Kissed a Girl" and the concept of sexual fluidity.
"For me, I always looked at this song as a real gender-fluid freedom record. I never looked at it as, 'Only females can listen to it' or 'Only males can listen to it': It’s for everybody," she said. "It really represents freedom and the chance to be what you want to be — and there being no judgment and just living your life as you want to live it. That’s what this song represents to me every time I hear it.
