With several news reports recently of registered sex offenders in the Southern Tier being arrested on new charges, families are reminded that the New York State Sex Offender Registry is available for review online.

The New York State Office of Criminal Justice Services say, by law, only Level 2 and 3 registered sex offender information is available by the public directory.

The information now includes several photos of registered offenders as they become available as well as multiple names (aliases) and addresses, as available.

In June, 2018, two low-level (Level 1) sex offenders were arrested in Broome County for on new charges, one for alleged child pornography and the other for rape.

Again, the New York State Sex Offender public registry search at www.criminaljustice.ny.gov is for listings of Level 2 and 3 offenders.

The DCJS can advise if a particular individual is in the registry as a Level 1 offender, but cannot disclose the location of Level 1 sex offenders or sex offenders with a pending risk level in a particular neighborhood or who they are.

The search is free along with alerts that residents can request concerning certain cases or individuals.

The Broome County Sheriff's sex offender site is also available at www.icrimewatch.net.
