The warmer-than-normal winter temperatures are keeping skaters off the ice at a new temporary rink installed at Recreation Park on Binghamton's West Side.

The city purchased a temporary rink kit and compressor equipment for the project.

The 60-foot by 32-foot rink area covers a portion of the park's Little League field near Seminary Avenue.

City Parks and Recreation Department employees Thursday sprayed additional water onto the rink surface and monitored the compressor, which is located next to the park pool.

With rain and showers, along with predicted highs in the 40s in the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, would-be skaters likely will be looking for other venues for awhile longer.

Signs at the park advise would-be skaters that the rink is not supervised and those who use the facility do so at their own risk.
