It's been established that if you do not have a new REAL ID, you will not be allowed to board an airplane in the United States.

Well, what exactly is a REAL ID? Here's an abbreviated explanation from Wikipedia relative to the REAL ID Act:

The Real ID Act of 2005, Pub.L. 109–13, 119 Stat. 302, enacted May 11, 2005, is an Act of Congress that modifies U.S. federal law pertaining to security, authentication, and issuance procedure standards for driver's licenses and identity documents, as well as various immigration issues pertaining to terrorism.

That sounds like a somewhat confusing way of simply stating that there is a new form of ID that's being issued in the United States so as to increase security measures to avoid acts of terrorism.

This new form of ID which will replace all old driver's licensing forms of ID beginning October 1, 2020, according to reports, does not make one thing clear, and that is whether this new mandate such that you need a REAL ID will also apply to persons who have an Enhanced License.  Here's the answer:
