Oxford Veterans Home Hosts Vehicle Parade and You’re Invited
UPDATE: On Monday, May 11, the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford released the following on their Facebook page: "We are reaching out to you today to provide an update on our facility parade scheduled for Wednesday May 13th. After much discussion we have decided to postpone this event until further notice. The state is still in a period of pause; without unnecessary travel or groups congregating. The NYS Veterans Home would like this event to be a celebration for everyone without these confines."
ORIGINAL STORY: We’re used to seeing our veterans at local parades because they’re usually the ones marching in them, but this time the tables are being turned and the parade is being taken to them.
On Wednesday, May 13, the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford will host a special parade (from a distance, of course) to show our veterans that we’re thinking of them in the midst of all that’s been happening recently, not only around the world but right inside the Veterans Home.
In a series of updates posted to the New York State Health Department website, the Veterans Home has confirmed that the Home has seen over a dozen cases of COVID-19 and sadly, a few deaths.
Our veterans, who so bravely gave of themselves to serve these United States of America, are now cooped up and desperately missing family and friends. Now is the time for our community to show support for these precious men and women, to let them know they are not forgotten.
On Wednesday, May 13, the public is invited to a parade around the Veterans Home at 2:00 p.m. The Veterans Home is located at 4207 State Highway 220, Oxford, New York. If you would like to participate, you’re encouraged to make a sign, fly a flag, honk your horn, or even play patriotic music.
All vehicles are welcome to participate including fire trucks, police vehicles, and motorcycles.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to the Activities Department at the Oxford Veterans Home by calling 607-843-3126.
