Located just outside of Cooperstown, Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard is a destination that tourists flock to and drool over, or at least they did until the pandemic struck.

The first time that my family visited Fly Creek, my son wasn't quite a year old yet but I can still hear his squeals of pure joy and the sound of his baby hands clapping as he watched the ducks and geese in the Mill Pond.

Needing to get away for a long weekend, my family rented a cabin on Goodyear lake and set out to explore which is how we stumbled on Fly Creek in all of its gloriousness. Although a massive draw for tourists, there was something charming about the place that made us feel like we'd stepped back in time where things were a bit slower and people were a bit more friendly.

My husband and I were recently chatting about needing to go on another long weekend getaway and while discussing ideas of where to go, we kept coming back to the Cooperstown area and Fly Creek. It was an absolute punch in the gut when we learned that one of our favorite places to visit as a family has shut its doors.

Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard was opened in 1856 and until 2020, it was a place for visitors to taste some of the very best apples and apple cider, shop, snack, taste test wine, and visit with animals. A 164-year legacy

Unfortunately, the mill was closed because of the coronavirus pandemic and the owners decided that instead of re-opening, they would put the property and business up for sale.

While I wasn't able to find a listing for Fly Creek Cider Mill with a real estate company, I was able to find information on the sale on the business website.

Listed for $1,925,000.00, the sale includes the business, equipment, all remaining inventory, and two real estate parcels that include the Mill, Cider House, and Goose Street Parking Lot. There are three additional and adjacent parcels that are also available for purchase which include two homes, two barns, and a building lot.

The Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard brings in over $2 million in sales each year and interestingly, although it lost some money in 2020, the hit wasn't as catastrophic as one might think. Sales for 2019 were $2,702,804.00 while sales for 2020 were $2,431,057.00.
