The New York State Sheriff’s institute is beginning their annual Honorary Membership Drive and both the Delaware county and Broome County Sheriff’s Offices are in need of help.

The biggest part of the Membership drive is the Sheriff’s Summer Camp program for economically challenged children.

According to a news release, the program is in its 45th year, and been sending children from all over New York State to their summer camp, located on Keuka Lake.

Each year 840 kids will have a chance to attend the camp at no cost to their families, the Sheriff’s institute picks up the entire cost.

This past year has forced many of us into isolation and cancellation, we have missed out on many of our past enjoyable activities and events.

Many children have been put under stressful conditions, and the Sheriffs Summer Camp gives several kids the opportunity to enjoy a fun filled vacation, that they could not otherwise afford.

In the news release, Delaware County Sheriff Greg DuMond said “In these difficult economic times we cannot forget our youth who will not have the opportunity for a summer camp experience or a summer vacation,”

DuMond says “By becoming an honorary member you are supporting the Sheriffs’ Summer Camp for economically disadvantaged children.”

Broome County Sheriff David E. Harder is also asking residents to help by becoming an honorary member in this not for profit, non-partisan support of the Sheriff’s Summer Camp Program.
