The minimum wage in the state increases December 31 to $13.20 an hour except for fast food workers around the state who are already making 15-dollars an hour.  That increase is a 70-cent hike for the majority of employees outside of New York City.

Workers downstate in Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties will be making $15 an hour.  New York City employees of larger firms have ben making $15 for three years.

New York has been easing in a five-year plan to increase the base pay in order to minimize the financial impact of the hike on especially small businesses.

The move toward a $15 minimum wage is moving forward on the National level as well with President Joe Biden this year requiring that base salary for federal contractors.  That increase is due to take effect at the end of next month.
