My husband and I recently celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary and I suppose you could say that the gifts I gave him were a bit "unconventional."

Since our first anniversary, I've been gifting my husband with "traditional" gifts for each year. On our cotton anniversary, I gave Jay a cotton candy machine. On our wood anniversary, I presented him with a wooden frame that has our vows etched into the wood around a photo of us.

This year was our seventh anniversary, the copper one. We already have copper pots and pans and I was at a loss of what else I could give so I went for the silly factor and gave my husband copper-infused socks, a copper tongue scraper, and copper vitamin supplements.

However, I'm not cruel and I couldn't just give those strangely odd anniversary gifts. So, I bought my husband a new fishing pole, tackle box, and lures. He already has more fishing things than one person could need in an entire lifetime, but they're being held hostage at our cabin in Canada which we've not been able to get to in over a year in a half thanks to the border being closed.

My husband was so excited because this means he can take our boy to the lake to go fishing, a tradition the two of them loved to do together until COVID caused the border to close.

Maybe you need a refresher course in fishing or you have no idea how to even fish (there's no shame in that!). Maybe you know how to fish but have a child in your life who doesn't and who seems to learn better when someone else is doing the educating. Whatever your situation, New York State wants to help you learn to fish for free.

If you prefer to learn by reading, you can read the 'I FISH NY Beginners' Guide to Freshwater Fishing" for free here. If you learn better by doing, you can sign up for a learn to fish clinic (no fishing license required) here.

If you want to make sure you've got your fishing skills down pat before buying a fishing license and hitting the open water, you might want to think about participating in the New York State Free Fishing Days which are coming up on Saturday, June 26, and Sunday, June 27.  During the New York State Free Fishing Days, you can fish on any New York State fresh waterway for free and with no fishing license!

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
