New York State Trooper Killed Near Corning
A New York State Police trooper died after he was shot while at the scene of a reported domestic disturbance in Steuben County, just south of Corning.
Sources familiar with the situation say the incident happened early Monday morning in the area of the Spencer Crest Nature Center near Corning Community College.
Reports from the scene indicated the trooper and a suspect both died after being shot.
State police have not released the names of those who are dead. Details of what occurred before shots were fired also have not been made public.
The trooper's body was taken to Lourdes Hospital In Binghamton for an autopsy, which was expected to be performed Monday afternoon.
Some of the trooper's relatives were taken to Lourdes by a state police helicopter, which landed in a parking lot west of the hospital just after 12:30 p.m.
Troopers stood at attention and saluted as the family members entered the hospital emergency department.
Dozens of marked New York State Police troop cars were parked near the hospital's entrance off Riverside Drive on Binghamton's West Side.
