Thousands of eating establishments across New York state have been ordered to close their dining areas to control the spread of coronavirus.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the move Monday morning. He said the state's restaurants and bars would be able to operate only to serve delivery and takeout customers.

Cuomo said the restrictions are to take effect at 8 p.m. Monday.

Gyms, movie theaters and casinos in New York also have been ordered to close as of that time.

Although the governor said the new rules will also be implemented in two neighboring states - New Jersey and Connecticut - they don't apply to Pennsylvania.

Binghamton restaurant operators immediately moved to comply with the order but some expressed concern about their ability to survive if the restrictions remain in place for a long period.
