State police are alerting New Yorkers to another high-tech effort to steal their money.

Authorities on Wednesday warned people not to be fooled if they receive a text from their banking institution.

Officials said the message alert may appear to have been sent from your bank and it will provide a method to contact the sender.

Police say you shot not give any personal banking account information over the phone or by email. You also should not give any information about your credit or debit cards using those methods.

State police advise people with questions or concerns about their accounts or cards to contact their bank directly.

The warning did not indicate whether the state police or other law enforcement agencies in New York had received any complaints from people who actually lost money as a result of the scam.
