According to a news release from the NYS fair the sculptures Marie Pelton and Jim Victor will begin their creation with butter made from about two-thousand gallons of milk, and shipped in from Batavia New York.

Now the fun part sculpting from “scrap butter” as it’s called, comes from damaged packaging and instead of wasting it its shaped into something cool and put on display for fair goers to see.

If you’re wondering what happens to this 800-pound buttery masterpiece, it doesn’t go to waste, according to the news release believe it or not, it gets recycled into renewable energy through a digester which breaks it down and helps create 450 kilowatts of electricity.

If you really want to get a look at this years sculpture you’ll have to wait till next Thursday when it will be revealed on the American Dairy NE facebook page, as it goes on the display the following day and all through the fair which ends on Monday September 6th
