Purell isn't good enough for the state of New York and Governor Cuomo. Well, that's the impression I'm taking away from today's press conference.

Gov. Cuomo announced today that the state will produce up to 100,000 gallons of hand sanitizer a week to distribute to the most impacted and high-risk communities and state agencies.

According to the press release at www.governor.by.gov Gov Cuomo is quoted as saying, "We are introducing New York State Clean hand sanitizer made conveniently by the State of New York. This is a superior product to products now on the market. The World Health Organization, CDC, all of those people suggest 60% alcohol content. Purell, a competitor to New York State Clean - 70% alcohol. This is 75% alcohol."

Currently, you can't buy the NYS Hand Sanitizer in stores—it's only being distributed to governmental agencies, schools, the MTA and prisons. That might change in the future.

I guess in the meantime, the general public can just keep getting price-gouged by some business selling hand sanitizer. Seriously, $80 for a tiny bottle of Purell seems reasonable.

The governor also confirmed 37 additional Coronavirus cases in New York, bringing the total to 142.
