New York COVID Update for Health Coverage, Testing and Theaters
On day 200 of the coronavirus pandemic in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo says the special enrollment period for uninsured residents is being extended again.
The Democrat says “the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over and it’s more important than ever to have access to high-quality affordable health insurance.” Enrollment is now open through December 31. Consumers can apply for coverage through N-Y State of Health online at nystateofhealth.ny.gov or by phone at 1-855-355-5777.
New York’s positive results per tests administered again fell below one-percent on Tuesday with an addition of 652 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths.
75,000 tests were administered on Tuesday with .87% coming back positive for the coronavirus.
Cuomo points out, at the start of the pandemic in March and April, New York was struggling to have the resources to be able to conduct 500 tests a day.
Even with the continued evidence New York is controlling the pandemic, theaters and concert halls are still in a holding pattern, waiting to be some of the last businesses to reopen following the coronavirus complete shutdown in New York in March.
Governor Cuomo says while its not a crisis the way it was, New York is not back to the point where life can get back to normal without the possibility of a spike in infections as has happened in other parts of the country. The governor did not give an estimate on when he thought those remaining businesses may be given directives allowing them to reopen.
