New York and Northeast Pennsylvania Under Winter Storm Warning
Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]The National Weather service is upgrading the previous Winter Storm Watch for the region to a Winter Storm Warning from 11 p.m. March 1 to 1 a.m. March 3.
Forecasters say heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 8-15 inches. The higher totals are most likely over the higher elevations.
The Warning area includes most of New York State from the Hudson Valley-north as well as west of the Capitol District. That includes, Broome, Tioga, Cortland, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Tompkins Counties. In Pennsylvania, the Warning includes Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties.
Officials warn travel will be very difficult, including during the morning commute March 2. Winds gusting as high as 45 MPH that afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow along with possible scattered power outages. Snow could fall heavy at times after 12 a.m. March 2 into later in the day with rates of up to 2 inches per hour possible.
A Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. NOAA advises that, if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
