New York reported 1,393 new positive test results for the coronavirus October 13.  171 of those are in the hot zones identified as red where there are concentrated clusters of new infections. Those red zones are downstate where strict new regulations are in place banning group gatherings and severely limiting the number of people at church events.

Broome County, meanwhile, is suffering from its own spike in coronavirus infections while the number of active cases reported daily has been slowly dropping over the past few days.

School districts in the Yellow Zone in Broome are now learning more about what they have to do if they are to have in-person learning.  The state-required weekly testing of staff, faculty and students will be only for buildings falling in the yellow zone, not the entire district but some schools have said they are opting to test staff, even if they are remote learning at this point.
