It turns out that the whole gluten-free diet trend is all that it's cracked up to be.

A new study by University of Sheffield in England and published by the journal Gastroenterology shows that there are zero health benefits for most people that choose to eat a gluten-free diet.

Just a few years ago, I had never even heard of gluten. Gluten is found in grains including wheat, barley and rye.

Gluten-free products are usually more expensive than regular products, and could cost as much as 139 percent more in some cases. The report states that products that where gluten free accounted for nearly $2.7 billion in sales in the United States last year.

According to a report in the New York Post, one doctor from Manhattan said that gluten-free products are usually more processed, contain higher fat and sugar, and lower fiber than foods that contain gluten.

According to the Mayo Clinic, if you suffer from Celiac disease, or another medical condition that is caused from gluten, then a gluten free diet is essential. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to have any benefit to anyone that can tolerate gluten.

If you are suffering with stomach issues, you should really consult your doctor first, and not just start a gluten-free diet on your own. The diet might not cure your ailment, and you might end up wasting a lot of money. Not to mention missing out on enjoying all of your favorite foods.
