New Life at the Old Pat Mitchell’s Ice Cream Shop in Endicott
Folks passing by the building that once was home to the popular Pat Mitchell's Ice Cream shop in Endicott are buzzing about all the activity going on at the site.
Renovation work began at the property at 231 Vestal Avenue a few weeks ago.
A Johnson City man, Joseph Christoff, recently acquired the property at a Broome County tax auction.
When the building was constructed in 1966, it was utilized as Endicott's first McDonald's restaurant. Several other businesses, including Pat Mitchell's, occupied the site after McDonald's opened a restaurant on East Main Street.
Christoff said he believes the site has plenty of potential for a new business. He said it could be used for an ice cream shop, restaurant or retail store. He'll be looking for someone interested in utilizing the property after he's done sprucing up the place.
The parking lot on the property was repaved Tuesday. Christoff said a new metal roof will be installed in a few weeks. He hopes the renovations will be completed next month.
