Motorcyclist Dies After Crash Near Sanitaria Springs
A Broome County man is dead as the result of injuries he sustained when he lost control of a motorcycle.
Authorities say 57-year-old Keith Bernhardsen of Harpursville was pronounced dead at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred around 5 p.m. Friday near 348 Cafferty Road in the town of Colesville. The scene was a short distance east of Sanitaria Springs.
Deputies found Bernhardsen and the motorcycle in a field off the roadway.
Investigators say Bernhardsen had been operating a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was traveling east on Cafferty Road near Ridge Road when he lost control of the vehicle on a left turn.
The motorcycle went off the roadway into a field, causing traumatic injuries.
A passerby spotted the wrecked motorcycle and called 911.
Several fire departments and ambulance squads assisted sheriff's deputies at the crash scene.
