More Twin Tiers Skiers Fall Victim to Car Break-ins

Another popular ski resort in the Twin Tiers is reporting an afternoon of fun on the slopes ruined by thieves breaking into locked vehicles.

Pennsylvania State Police say over a half-dozen skiers at Elk Mountain in Susquehanna County found their locked vehicles broken into and credit cards and cash stolen between quarter of eight in the morning February 27 and 3 that afternoon.

This report follows an incident on February 20^th  where windows were smashed on locked vehicles at Labrador Mountain in Truxton, New York and items stolen.

In the Elk Mountain incident, Troopers say residents from Union Dale, Dallas, South Abington Township, Huntingdon Valley and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as well as skiers from Towson, Maryland and Pittstown, New Jersey found their door locks broken. 20 credit cards, bank cards and gift cards with an unknown total cash limit value and a couple hundred dollars in small cash were taken. Authorities say some of the stolen credit cards were used at Walmart stores in Dickson City, Pittston and Wilkes-Barre, a Target in Dickson City and Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre.

Damage to the vehicles is put at a minimum of $3,500 just for the broken locks.

Anyone with possible surveillance from vehicles parked in the upper parking lot of Elk Mountain Sunday, February 27 is encouraged to review their video and contact the Pennsylvania State Police.
