Incidents of perceived threats against local schools seem to be spiraling out of control.

Over the past several days, there has been alarm concerning the idea of a threat at Binghamton High School which turned out to be a situation in New Mexico in a district that is also abbreviated BHS.

Johnson City Police are investigating a situation indicating a possible threat to Johnson City High School. The Village Police issued a statement at 7 a.m. February 27 saying officials are investigating people suspected to be involved. They call the act "malicious" but say there is no existing threat or safety concerns.  Police say arrests are possible.

In Chenango County, the Bainbridge-Guilford District is holding a forum to talk about safety following an apparent idle threat last week in which a student was arrested.

The Spencer Van Etten District said police presence was to be increased yesterday and counselors available for students after a conversation about a movie and the recent shooting in Florida morphed into a posting on Instagram and Facebook about a possible threat to the Spencer Van Etten schools.

Threats have also recently been reported in Delaware County and the Whitney Point School District following the horrific massacre at the high school in Parkland, Florida February 14.
