Mayor: Binghamton Needs Federal Coronavirus Relief

Binghamton Mayor Richard David is calling on Congress to approve direct assistance to small cities to cover their costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Tuesday expressed concern that a federal relief package may limit such aid to cities with populations above 500,000.

The mayor in a statement said cities of all sizes, including Binghamton, are "on the front lines" in responding to the crisis.

David has signed a letter from the United States Conference of Mayors to members of Congress supporting direct emergency assistance to cities as part of a federal relief package.

The organization is supporting the use of the Community Development Block Grant allocation structure for a new federal stabilization program.
