Police have released the name of a "person of interest" in connection with the killing of Binghamton University nursing school student Haley Anderson.

Binghamton detectives around noon Monday announced 22-year-old Orlando Tercero fled the country before Anderson's body was discovered in an apartment on the West Side.

Investigators say Tercero flew out of the United States to Nicaragua. They did not say when he left the country but it's believed he fled before Anderson was found dead.

Police have said Tecero also was enrolled as a nursing student at Binghamton University. They say he is a United States citizen.

Detectives did not indicate if they know where Tercero may be in Nicaragua or what steps are underway to track him down.

Investigators said an autopsy performed on Saturday concluded Anderson's death was a homicide. They have not revealed the cause death.

Anderson was a senior from Westbury, Long Island.
