Neighbors say they heard as many as six gunshots after two men were involved in a loud dispute in a normally quiet residential section of Binghamton.

One man was wounded in the incident on the city's South Side, which was reported just before 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

People who live nearby said the shooting happened at 51 Tremont Avenue, just north of Newton Avenue.

Several people in the neighborhood told WNBF News they heard the shots fired followed by the sound of squealing tires as a vehicle sped away from the scene, heading south.

Fire medics assisted the wounded man from the two-family house. He was able to walk to a stretcher before he was placed in a Binghamton Fire Department ambulance to be transported to a hospital.

A man who was helping a friend move said he heard a commotion shortly before the shooting. He said the men argued with each other for about 15 minutes before one of them drove away from the area. That man apparently returned in a vehicle and shot the other man.

Another nearby resident who said he was friends with the man who was shot said the injured person had been "hiding in his home" in recent days and appeared to be concerned for his safety.

Binghamton police patrol officers and detectives did not comment about the shooting at the scene.

The attack happened nine days after 12-year-old Aliza Spencer was fatally shot while she walked with her father and brother near their home on Bigelow Street on the city's East Side. No arrests have been reported in that investigation.

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
