Binghamton police are investigating an incident in which a man sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a falling tree.

City fire medics and an ambulance were sent with police to 62 Schubert Street around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A man who apparently was working in the back yard of the single-family home between Orton Avenue and Bellevue Heights was seriously hurt.

The injured man was taken by the Binghamton Fire Department ambulance to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Binghamton police detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the injury.

It was not known whether the man had been trimming tree branches or whether he was attempting to remove a tree at the time of the incident.

Investigators at the scene declined to comment.
