Binghamton detectives are investigating a stabbing incident at the downtown bus station that left a man seriously hurt.

Detective Captain John Ryan said a man sustained wounds to his head, neck and hands in the attack, which happened early Monday morning.

Ryan said the assailant was believed to be a man who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The attacker, who appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, fled the area on foot.

Despite his severe injuries, Ryan said the injured man apparently managed to walk several blocks.

Binghamton fire medics were dispatched to 56 Court Street at 1:48 a.m. to assist the man. He was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment.

Ryan said the man had been reported in serious but stable condition.

Investigators were reviewing video from bus station surveillance cameras.

Broome County security division director James Dadamio could not be reached for comment. A call to Dadamio was transferred to the county executive's office, which had no information about the bus station assault.
