109-year-old Alfred “Alfie” Date may be the world’s cutest clothing designer. The Australian man doesn’t just limit his talents to making human clothing though. Lately he has been more focused on making tiny sweaters for tiny birds.

That’s right - he is the 'Calvin Klein' of the animal kingdom!

After an oil spill left hundreds of Little Penguins injured and contaminated, the Phillip Island’s Penguin Foundation contacted the prolific knitter and asked if he could help out. The veteran knitter, who has been knitting for over 80 years, said he couldn’t refuse the offer!

The foundation wanted to stress to the public that this is not at all a fashion statement, but rather a real form of protection for the Little Penguins. The sweaters are meant to prevent the injured birds from inadvertently swallowing the toxic oil.

It’s good to note that Date is not only the oldest knitter on this project he is also the oldest citizen in all of Australia! He’s doing pretty well for a man who has been alive longer than the invention of the Band-Aid if you ask me.

Now, you don’t need to be able to knit adorable sweaters to prove you love animals.  Instead, you should consider joining the Humane Society for their Top Dog Team Trivia Night! It will be held at the American Legion Post 89 on Saturday, February 21st from 6 pm -9:30 pm.

Admission for the event is $15 a person and will include prizes, raffles and food! All proceeds will go to benefit the Humane Society.
