Lowville Man Accused of Planning to Distribute Heroin/Fentanyl Mix

A North Country man is facing federal charges, accused of planning to distribute heroin mixed with the deadly synthetic drug, fentanyl.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 25-year-old Derek Damuth of Lowville was indicted by a federal grand jury and could face up to 40 year in prison if convicted.

According to the U.S. Justice Department, Damuth allegedly had more than 40 grams of a mixture of heroin and fentanyl he planned to distribute and also had additional amounts of cocaine and marijuana in his possession.

Officials say the minimum sentence is five years in prison and a maximum fine of $500,000 could be imposed.

Damuth is currently being held on state charges and is due to appear in Federal Court for the latest charges March 12.
