Fall is here on Tuesday, September 22nd, and summer is almost gone. Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, it was a different kind of summer for everyone. Think about all the things that you were going to during but couldn't.

For me, it was the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open, officiating basketball summer leagues and AAU tournaments. However, there were many things that I was able to do during the pandemic.

I took road trips to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Gilligan's Island Ice Cream in Sherburne, and 1911 Cider House in Lafayette. I also can't forget about all the wonderful graduation and birthday car parades that I participated in

My plans changed but it seemed like I did more traveling this year and apparently it's not just me. There's a new report by seoClarity that says that total travel is down but road trips have increased substantially.

It's not surprising that across America, total travel was down 30% because there was a 70% decline in air travel and more people were working at home. However, there was a 37.6% increase in road trip travel.

In Binghamton, the numbers were much better. Total travel decreased by around 27% but road trips increased by 45.5% during the same time. At first, I was surprised by the report but I looked back at my summer adventures.

My niece Britanny and her husband Shawn bought an RV and they've been traveling to different campsites in New York and Pennsylvania. I was able to join them at Tioga-Hammond Lakes in Tioga PA. I drove a jet ski for the first time and was able to mark that off my bucket list.

If it was a normal summer, I wouldn't have had the chance to make the trip and have all these AWESOME memories with my family. So I might not have been able to go to as many states because of New York travel restrictions but the places I could go were well worth it.

What road trips did you take this summer because of the pandemic?
