Police found a loaded handgun, illegal drugs and more than $3,000 in cash when they searched an apartment house next door to a church on Binghamton's West Side.

Authorities say the drug raid occurred Monday at 3 Grand Boulevard. The building is just west of CrossPoint Community Church.

Investigators say 33-year-old Troy Sanks faces a half-dozen felony counts. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Police confiscated a gun, crack cocaine, amphetamine pills and illegally possessed prescription drugs. They also seized $3,100 in suspected drug proceeds and drug packaging materials.

Sanks was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and then sent to Broome County Jail.

A parole violation warrant was issued for Sanks. State records indicate he is on parole after serving prison time for a drug sale conviction.
