Kids Bored Already? Try This Book To Keep Them Moving
It's not easy keeping kids busy these days. With screens in front of them all the time, how do you keep them using their brains and keeping them from being bored?
Let me just say that I cringed a little using that word up there. The one that starts with a b. Yeah...bored! That was a bad word in my house growing up.
My dad used to always say, "If you're bored, come see me. I'll find something for you to do." We never did. HIs list of things to do were never as fun as what we could come up with on our own. So we just never went to him and told him we were bored.
How many people played the game, "The Floor Is Lava" when they were a kid? Where you move from piece of furniture to piece of furniture and hope not to fall off because if you do, you'll burn up in the lava that is covering the living room floor...
If you didn't play that as a kid, I feel kind of bad. We used to spend HOURS playing that. It was just a game that was kind of made up on the spur of the moment. We would even make up our own rules as we went.
Now, there's even a gameshow on TV for adults that has the same idea.
Which is why when I found this book, I grabbed it up. It's called "The Floor Is Lava - and 99 more games for everyone, everywhere" by Ivan Brett. We snagged it at Barnes & Noble but you can probably grab it on Amazon.
Here's what's so great about it - it really does have games for just about everywhere. If you're at home, or in the car, there are tons of suggestions on games to play. Going camping and the kids are afraid they'll be bored? Try it! You never know, it might just bring out some conversations that you've never had in your family before.
It's an incredible way to unplug from technology and connect with your family this summer. Show your kids how there's more to games than the ones on screens.
