Vestal police say a Johnson City resident has been arrested in connection with a burglary at a town business.

Authorities say 18-year-old Jason Canfield Jr. was taken into custody at his home Tuesday night.

Investigators say police units were sent to Matco Electric Corporation at 3913 Gates Road after a business alarm was received around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers discovered a burglary in progress. They spotted a man inside the building. He fled after seeing the police.

Officers could not immediately enter the business because it was locked. They tried to contain the burglar inside but they could not do so because of the size of the building.

Vestal police used evidence found at the business to determine the identity of the suspect.

Canfield was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony. He was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.

Detectives say they expect Canfield will face more charges.
