Oakdale Commons HomePLUS Store Opening Soon
A popular Broome County furniture retailer is about to expand operations with a large new store in Johnson City.
The finishing touches are being applied to the 33,000-square-foot HomePLUS location in the Oakdale Commons.
The business has been based on Conklin Avenue on Binghamton's South Side since 2012.
HomePLUS president Jay Fanara said a lot of work has taken place over the last several months to prepare the space for the new showroom in the former Oakdale Mall.
Fanara said there has been plenty of activity at the site as final preparations are being made ahead of the opening. He said "over the last 10 days our crews have worked so hard."
The massive new store will cover nine spaces that had been previously been used by various tenants, including a bank, a fast-food restaurant and clothing stores.
Furniture and other merchandise have been delivered in recent weeks as workers tended to last-minute details at the new store location.
Fanara expects there'll be a "real soft opening" of the Oakdale Commons store within the next week. That will be followed by a formal "Grand Opening" of the site.
