Chenango County authorities say no arrests have been made after a man acting suspiciously caused the Greene Elementary School campus to be locked down at the end of the school day Tuesday, September 13.

An incident was reported at a home near the school grounds on Juliand Street at around 3 p-m.

A notice was posted on the Greene Central School District website informing residents that “in an abundance of caution”, the lock-in safety procedure was initiated in reaction to officials being made aware of an incident involving law enforcement “at a residence near our elementary campus.”

The reported incident did not happen on school property and no students, staff or faculty were in harm’s way according to the message from District Superintendent Timothy Calice.

Some parents who showed up to pick up their children at the end of the school day were turned around until officials had cleared the scene and athletic teams that practice at the elementary campus were brought inside.

The statement from the school district concluded: "As a district, we take these types of incidents very seriously, and with careful consideration our administrative team acted according to policy." The district informed residents if they had any questions or concerns to contact the District Office at (607) 656-4161.

Chenango County Emergency Services officials this morning said the incident involved a man who lived at the home near the school entrance but the incident was resolved without injury and there was no one taken into custody.

There was no information available as to what suspicious activity on the part of the individual caused the response of law enforcement and the subsequent lock-in of the school campus.
