New Owner Sees Bright Future for Conklin Tent-Making Facility
Tent manufacturing operations at a Broome County production facility could expand significantly as a new owner of the business plans for growth.
Rekord Group acquired the Eureka military and commercial tents units in Conklin from Johnson Outdoors early this year.
The event tent party line by Eureka now is being marketed by InTENTional Systems.
Carol Cundey, senior sales and marketing manager, said about 90 people are working at the Conklin Road operation. She said the company is "adding positions as we grow and evolve."
Cundey said the goal of the new owners is to "at least double the number of employees" at the local facility over the next two or three years. She said the owners are committed to maintaining the manufacturing operation in Conklin.
Cundey said the plan is "to expand locally as the business grows."
Many of the people employed at the production facility have worked at the plant just east of Binghamton for decades.
The site at 625 Conklin Road was home to the Eureka Camping Center retail store for more than a half-century. The shop that sold tents and other outdoor gear was closed three years ago.
