JC Woman Hurt When SUV Becomes Airborne, Crashes Into Trees
The operator of a sport utility vehicle was injured when it veered out of control down an embankment, flew through the air and slammed into a few trees in Johnson City.
The crash happened at the north end of Second Street around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Witness Carl Crawford told WNBF News he was talking with his brother at the east end of Endwell Street when he saw "the car getting airborne" before striking a tree.
Crawford indicated the SUV appeared to be moving at a high rate of speed when it flew off the end of the neighboring dead end street.
The 2018 Toyota RAV4 came to a rest at the bottom of the embankment, just a few yards from Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.
According to Johnson City police, the 68-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle "experienced health issues which caused her to crash."
The driver was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said no charges would be filed in connection with the crash.
