Opening Soon: Inside The Pad Climbing Gym in Vestal
Construction of an indoor recreational climbing facility in Broome County is moving forward as developers look forward to opening the site.
The Pad Climbing gym in Vestal is expected to start operating in early December.
Yishai Horowitz said work at the 16,000-square-foot site at 2220 Vestal Road began in August. The new facility will be located where the former Edge sports complex operated.
Horowitz told WNBF News climbing walls and bouldering walls are being constructed inside the eastern portion of the Nielsen building.
The Pad facility also will feature a yoga studio, a weight area, a kids climbing area and a lounge, along with bathroom and shower facilities.
This will be the first Pad Climbing gym in the northeastern United States. The company now has locations in San Luis Obispo, California and in Henderson, Nevada.
Horowitz said a team from Bulgaria is working on-site in Vestal to assemble the special climbing walls. The sections are custom-manufactured by a Bulgarian company called Walltopia.
Horowitz said the response from people in the Binghamton area has been "pretty amazing" since the project was announced a few months ago.
Memberships for the Pad Climbing gym in Vestal are available. The company also is in the process of hiring employees to help launch the new operation.
