In the press release, Cornwell stated,
"With this local approval, Just Breathe is set to make history, right here in Binghamton, as the first licensed cannabis dispensary in all of Upstate New York. We're excited for what this means for the community, downtown Binghamton's continued revitalization and our local economy. Thanks to the New York State Office of Cannabis Management and the City of Binghamton for proactively laying the framework for this moment."
A planning commission meeting was held in the Binghamton City Council Chambers, where the dispensary received its final approval to open.
Mayor Kraham stated, "Binghamton is leading the way on the legal cannabis industry in New York State. By proactively updating local zoning laws and working with our New York State partners, the City has positioned itself to capitalize on the opportunity to attract good careers and new community investments, while growing the industry in a responsible manner that benefits all residents. This new business is an exciting next step."
In order to pave the way for opening the first cannabis dispensary in upstate New York, Binghamton began updating its zoning laws nearly a year ago to plan for future cannabis businesses.
