A former ice cream shop near Endicott has been transformed into a craft brewery and restaurant.

Light Years Fermentation has opened its doors on Route 17C in Crestview Heights. The town of Owego site - just inside Tioga County - has previously been the home of Double Scoops Ice Cream.

The partners in the new business acquired the property last July. Bill Olshefski of Crestview Heights and Dave Blaine of Endwell had the place ready to open in three months.

According to the Lights Years website, the enterprise is "the culmination of many years of creating and experimenting to create products that we are proud to share with our family, friends, and community."

The place opened last week with a limited selection of craft beer brewed in small batches.

Light Years also is serving pizza, sandwiches, ice cream and other snacks.

The business initially will be open Thursday through Sunday. In addition to indoor seating, picnic benches are in place to provide outdoor seating.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
