According to a press release from the Broome County Sheriff's Office, 26 year old Zackary Kohout of Cortland, New York was driving on Sunday, March 5th, when he rear-ended a Broome County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle on Main Street in the Town of Lisle.

When additional Sheriff's deputies responded to the accident, they conducted an investigation and determined that Kohout appeared to be intoxicated. They began to investigate and law enforcement officers found a number of alcoholic beverages in his car and Kohout allegedly admitted to officers that he had been drinking before the accident occurred.

Kohout agreed to undergo a Standardized Field Sobriety Test which he began, but allegedly refused to finish. He also allegedly refused to submit to a breathalyzer test to determine his blood alcohol content.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies then took him into custody and he was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, following too closely, driving at a speed not reasonable and prudent, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

The Broome County Sheriff's Deputy who was in the patrol car that got rear-ended was taken to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. He reportedly sustained only minor injuries and was treated and released shortly after his arrival.

Kohout was arrested, arraigned, and released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Lisle Court later in March to answer the charges.
